In the Free City of Cadwallon, a constant shadowy struggle for power simmers just below the surface of the seemingly peaceful city. Mighty guilds constantly vie for power, influence, and control.

Review:

Guilds of Cadwallon is a set collecting card game, for 2 to 4 players, with a unique way of collecting cards.

Beginning of every round, 9 District Cards are arranged into 3 rows of 3 cards. In turn, players place their colour agent, adjacent to two cards (boulevard), one of possible 12 places. When all 12 boulevards are filled, players then look at each card, to see which player has the most support. Support is counted by the support value of the adjacent card, where the agent occupies.

After the cards are taken by the appropriate player, new District Cards are refilled on all the empty spaces. Game ends when there are not enough cards to refill.

For endgame scoring, players sort their District Cards by Guilds and assign Personality Card to a particular Guild. Add up the points then multiply by the number of cards in that guild. Add all the points for each guild and subtract Military (special District Card) Penalty points. Player with the most points wins.

When playing with the optional rules (Condition Cards and Contract Cards), it give the game more variety and strategy. It is worth playing with the optional rules every time but it is easier to teach new players without it.

Surprisingly, I enjoyed playing this quick (20 ? 30 minute with 2 players) card game. It has a unique mechanic and it took a lot of thinking to figure out where to place the first two or three agents at the beginning of each round.
