Product Description:

“You are hired by Corporation Incorporated as a Galaxy Trucker! Employees gain access to pre-fabricated spaceship components cleverly made from sewer pipes. Can you build a space ship durable enough to weather storms of meteors? Armed enough to defend against pirates? Big enough to carry a large crew and valuable cargo? Fast enough to get there first?”

Each round, players are hired to build their space ship from the bits and parts that is available in the warehouse; then off you go!! Defend yourself against different events such as pirates, finding abandoned stations, being bombarded by meteors, etc.; pick up goods, store it and deliver it at your final destination to earn credits; and being the first to arrive to your destinations also earns you more credits than others. There is also a “beauty contest” for your ship but are penalize for leaving debris all over the galaxy.

Review: If you are looking for a “brain burner” game, non-random, extremely strategic game, then this is NOT the game for you. If you CAN laugh at your misfortune and/or other player’s misfortune, then this is a game for YOU!!! The game is played in three or four rounds (if you play the fourth rounds, you get to build the “Enterprise”). In each round, players build their ship; go up against the event cards, and then there is a scoring phase. To build your ship, each player draw a tile, decide if they want to keep it or discard face up. When placed on the ship, it must connect properly. At the end of this phase, there is an inspection phase. If parts of your ship was assembled incorrectly, that piece is removed and all other pieces that was dependently connected to it also go away! Once a piece is placed on your ship and another piece is drawn from the draw pile, then the piece placed cannot be moved. Your spaceship needs lasers to shoot down meteors or fight against pirates; shields to protect you against small meteors or laser blasts; cargo space to deliver and earn money; crew and crew quarters to bring back derelict ships or to explore big abandoned stations; rockets to make your ship fly faster; and batteries to operate your double lasers, double rockets, and shields. Basically you want everything but space and time to build your ship is limited. Once everyone build their ship or the timer runs out, then off you go! Events cards are drawn one at a time and either the player in the lead and/or all players must face it. When all events are faced, credits are given out in the order that they arrived at the final destinations, for the “prettiest ship”; and credits are subtracted for each piece of tile that was removed from your ship. Player with the most credits at the end of three or four rounds wins.

I haven’t played a FUN board game in a long time. There is the franticness of building your ship; there is a story telling part of the event cards (if you want but you don’t have to. I do it just to add some excitement); and random things happen to your or other players ship. The only thing that you could do about it is to laugh. Galaxy Trucker is already on my top ten favorite games of all time.
